Windshield Repair in Austin, Lakeway, Round Rock and Cedar Park and Surrounding Areas

Doesn’t it completely ruin your day when you’re driving along the highway minding your own business and all of the sudden a rock kicked up from a passing vehicle totally defaces your car? I have been victimized several times by this alarming situation and not only can it be completely disturbing to the overall nice driving day you may have had, but now you have to deal with the repair aspects. If you become a victim of this unpredictable situation you now have to locate a legitimate re

air person and your Insurance Company if you decide to make a claim.

Did you know? To make a repair on a windshield will typically take about 20 minutes. Replacing a windshield takes roughly 2 hours.

After finding a reputable person they will begin the repair process, which generally takes between thirty minutes to a few hours depending on the repair needed. The process includes removing the air from the crack (a single line of separation in the outer or inner layer of the windshield), or bullseye (damage to laminated glass that is primarily a dark colored circle with an impact hole) and filling it with a matching curable resin. This permanent substance once cured improves the clarity for the driver, is more cosmetically appealing, creates a smooth surface for windshield wipers, prevents original damage from spreading and adds strength to the windshield.

Austin Price Check! – The cost of windshield repair completely varies on the kind of car and size of area damaged. Generally, if the crack is more than two inches, your entire windshield will need to be repaired. A cracked windshield on an average four door car in Austin costs between $20-$50. However, a windshield replacement on that same vehicle could cost anywhere from $250.00 to $450.00!

There are certain times where repairing the damaged windshield is simply not an option due to severe cases in which any of the following have occurred: it has penetrated both layers of the laminated glass, there are three or more long cracks, the crack was contaminated by chemicals, the crack resides on the inside layer of the glass, the damaged area is dirty, heated wipers or windshield are installed, it is a stress crack, resides on the edge of the glass, or is a bulletproof windshield. To be totally honest it is at the discretion of your repair person, as to whether they want the challenge of fixing the damage. Last year I had an eleven inch crack on my glass which was said to be non-repairable by all but one person. He stated that he would be able to repair it for me if I chose, but to understand that the integrity of the structure would be more stable if it was a smaller crack, and for this reason most people decline the repair of a lengthy crack. I chose not to replace the entire windshield and went ahead with the repair. The damage is no longer visible unless you look at a specific angle. Overall I am happy with the repair and it will suffice until I decide to replace the glass in the future.

Be prepared! The kind of windshield you need will depend on if you have a rain sensor or not. A rain sensor is the feature in which your windshield wipers automatically recognize the amount of rain and sweep accordingly. Glass for rain sensors is different from those without, and may cost anywhere from $20-$50 more.

Fix Your Own Car Windshield

Unfortunately, once again I became a victim of this annoying situation a few months ago. This time the damage was not that bad. It was a simple bullseye, smaller than the size of a quarter. So I decided to take on this task myself. If you are not inclined to say repair it yourself, than go ahead and spend the twenty-five, fifty, or however much they will try to charge you. I chose to fix it myself, and I did for a grand total of nine dollars. I went to my local automotive store and purchased a windshield repair kit. It took me less than twenty minutes and I can say not only was it easy but cheap. Plus, I didn’t have to shop around half of the day searching for a repair person. The outcome was very satisfying for the kit did exactly what it stated and has lasted without any problems.

Well, there you have it, if you become a victim do not let it overwhelm you. This unsightly situation is one lots of people have to deal with. As an avid traveler I can pretty much get it out of my head that this won’t happen in the future. Always remember it seems that once you have it fixed, you’re bound to get another one.

I hope this proves beneficial…
