Transmission Tune-up in Austin, Lakeway, Round Rock and Cedar Park and Surrounding Areas

Transmission, or gearbox as it is better known, is a system that passes mechanical power from the engine to any output device. There are both manual and automatic transmissions available. Manual transmissions feature a driver operated clutch and a movable gear selector, generally speaking. While in the case of automatic transmission, there is an automobile gearbox that can change gear ratios automatically even as the vehicle is moving, thereby freeing the driver from having to shift gears manually.

The first step in knowing whether you have a problem with your transmission is to check the transmission fluid. This video is a step by step lesson on how to check the fluid. Then, read on for more information about transmissions.

Manual transmissions are still known for their ability to support higher fuel efficiency. ZF Fried rich shafen AG and BMW were responsible for introducing the first five-speed and six-speed automatic transmissions, respectively. Mercedes – Benz’s 7-G Tronic was the first seven-speed, released in 2003.

Choosing a vehicle with manual transmission or automatic transmission is ultimately your own choice, since both come with their own advantages. Transmission is an important part of the whole vehicle’s design. With regular wear and tear, it’s bound to get some repairs at regular intervals.

Finding a good auto repair facility in Austin is the key to rebuild your transmission. It is also preferable that you are equipped with certain basic knowledge about transmission, before you begin your repair hunt. Try and determine whether the problem with your vehicle is mechanical or electrical.

Tip ! Look for indicators if you think your transmission may be going out. For instance, your car may be giving out white smoke, which is usually a symptom of transmission fluid being sucked into the engine’s combustion chamber and being burned. This problem may typically be corrected by replacing a faulty transmission modulator valve.

Although Texas has no comprehensive statute specifically governing auto repairs, you can always refer to the Deceptive Trade Practices/Consumer Protection Act, which has sections dealing with auto repairs. Under the provisions of this law, consumers can get protection from faulty repairs.

Once you have decided on an auto repair to build your transmission, find out whether they have some sort of certification, which could vouch for their reputation. For instance, there are numerous auto repair shops which are ‘Certified Texas State Inspection and Emissions Repair Stations.’ Such certifications go a long way in speaking about a repair mechanic. Even after attending to your transmission problem, if you still have something to dispute about with the shop, then the Texas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Office and the Better Business Bureau both offer a complaint resolution process to help out consumers.
