There are many ‘Parents taught Drivers Ed Programs’ which are available in Texas . These programs are also available in the form of CDs. These programs are aimed at educating students with applicable Texas traffic laws, use of space management, and protection of Texas natural resources, to mention only a few. This program is for teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17. The instructor must have a valid Texas driver’s license, though, before beginning to teach this course to a teen. Active US military personnel or their spouse may be instructors if they hold a valid license from their state of permanent residence or their last duty station.
In order to get a Texas driving license, one has to complete the ‘Driver Education Course Module 1’ first. Under this rules govern that all applicants under 17 must complete an approved driver education course and receive a ‘certificate of completion’. The written test for obtaining instruction permit consists of 30 multiple choice questions and to pass it, you need to get above 70%. The instruction permit remains valid during a mandatory six month period before you advance to the GDL Phase II – Provisional License. Under GDL Phase II, there are certain restrictions during the six month period following the issuance of an original Class A, B, or C driver license, like you may not operate a motor vehicle with more than one passenger, who is not a family member, in the vehicle under the age of 21 and may not operate a vehicle between midnight and 5.00 am, unless in the case of a medical emergency. All original licenses issued to persons under 18 are marked ‘Provisional.’ The license is vertical and will have a date of expiry, according to which one has to renew them annually.
