Storing Your Boat in Austin

There are a number of ways that boats can be stored, with the methods used usually depending on the size of the boat in question. Very small boats, such as kayaks for example, may be carried by hand or tied to the top of one’s car and stored in a space at home. These boats can be transported using boat trailers. These usually come with ramps to allow the boat to slide directly into the water.

Larger boats can be kept at the marinas, which often provide mooring facilities that offer the boat protection from the weather and also include a number of support services such as fuel and various pieces of equipment.

There are boat storage facilities, called rack storages, where boats are stored in large steel racks. These storage facilities vary in size, with some of them being four to five boats high and about twenty five boats across. These racks are usually located in sheds, which have specialized fork trucks to life the boats to and from the racks. This sort of a storage facility minimizes the amount of space needed to store boats, besides providing for a clean boat storing environment.

There are other storage facilities called dry storage yards where boats on trailers or dollies are stored on a hard surface. There are also facilities that offer fenced areas where boats can be stored, with most such places being located conveniently near the water. The biggest advantage of dry storage is that it avoids the need for the continuous maintenance associated with boats that are in continual water storage, such as bottom growth for example. Boats stored in dry storage areas usually make it to the water with the help of ramps or are hoisted in with an electric hoist.

There are many different kinds of boat storage facilities that can be found in Austin . Most of them are computer access controlled and provide many security features such as combination locks, night lights, surveillance cameras, and perimeter fences. Some of them also offer climate controlled storage rooms. Almost all such facilities are accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Certain places also offer additional facilities such as wash bays, propane, and dump stations.
