Austin Texas Real Estate Agent Licensing Requirements

To acquire a Texas real estate license, one must:

■ Have 180 classroom hours of study at a college or university
■ Be a legal resident of Texas at the time of application
■ Be a legal citizen
■ Be at least 18 years of age
■ Complete an “Application for Moral Character” with a check for $25.00 to Texas Real Estate Commission. Keep in mind, when determining moral character of an applicant, traffic tickets are not considered. If an applicant has a conviction they are encouraged to find out n advance if their record will prevent licensing.
■ Pass the Texas Real Estate Commission exam. This exam covers general theory and Texas law. The cost is $35.00. It typically takes approximately two hours and roughly 50% of people pass.
■ Pay the licensing fee of $75.00

Texas Real Estate Agent Term Information:

The term of a Texas Real Estate license is one year. After renewing the license, one is granted an additional two years of licensure. The renewal fee for a real estate agent in Austin is $72.00.

To acquire a license to be a real estate broker in Austin one must:
 
■ Have two years active experience with a Texas sales license before applying to be a Texas real estate broker
■ Be a legal resident of Texas at the time of application
■ Be a legal citizen
■ Be at least 18 years of age
■ Complete an “Application for Moral Character” with a check for $25.00 to Texas Real Estate Commission. The term of a Texas Real Estate license is one year. After renewing the license, one is granted an additional two years of licensure. The renewal fee for a real estate broker in Austin is $499.00.

Texas Real Estate Agent/Broker Continuing Education Information:

Both real estate agents and real estate brokers in Austin must partake in continuing education. In the first three years of acquiring a real estate license, one must have at least 30 hours of classroom work per year. In addition, the Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) requires 15 hours of classroom work every two years.
