Okay, I admit- many times when I go out in Austin , I am mesmerized by the amount of absolutely amazing dancers…and jealous too! I am the first to go out and make a fool of myself to let loose and have a good time, but in many places in Austin , you feel like your in the middle of a professional dance competition!

If you feel like I do, perhaps its time to take dance lessons!

This video will teach you the basic step for the highly popular Salsa dance. Then, read on to learn more about taking dance classes in Austin.

Here are a few things to consider when deciding to take dance lessons in Austin :

Style of Dance: There are many different styles of dance. Below is a brief description of a few that seem to be most popular:

Cha Cha- First known as the triple Mambo, however when people starting listening to the shuffling sounds while dancing it sounded like “cha cha cha,” and so hence the name.

Fox Trot- A global ballroom dance. It is speculated that the fox trot originated by Harry Fox in 1913.

Austin Money Savers Tip Inquire about specials for engaged couples. Many dance studios in Austin will have special dance packages for those getting married.

Jitterbug- . A strenuous dance performed to quick-tempo swing or jazz music and consisting of various two-step patterns embellished with twirls and sometimes acrobatic maneuvers.

Waltz- A ballroom dance in triple time with a strong accent on the first beat.

Salsa is a partner dance form that corresponds to salsa music, however it is sometimes done solo too. The word is the same as the Spanish word salsa meaning sauce, or in this case flavour or style.

Mambo- is a Cuban musical form and dance style. The word mambo ( conversation with the gods) is the name of a priestess in Haitian Voodoo, derived from the language of the African slaves that were imported into the Caribbean .

Swing- Swing is a group of related street dances that evolved from Lindy Hop. Swing is a partner dance, where the couple consists of a leader and follower, who share a connection. The three main dance forms of swing are Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, and East Coast Swing. However, there are many other dances of this kind, such as Jive and Balboa.

Tango- Tango is a social dance form that originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay. The musical styles that evolved together with the dance are also known as tango. Early tango was known as tango criollo or simply tango. Today, there are many tango dance styles including Argentine tango, ballroom tango (American and International styles), Finnish tango, Chinese tango, and vintage tangos. Argentine tango is regarded as the "authentic" tango since it is closest to that originally danced in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
