There are several different ways to become a cooking pro. You can obtain an associates degree in culinary, which takes 9 months-1 year. Also, you could get a 4 year bachelors degree, a 2 year Masters degree or a 6 year doctorate degree.
Most formal programs require 300-to-400 classroom hours and 200-to-300 externship or internship hours. Many schools offer several degree/certificate and schedule options so that total program lengths range from 10 weeks to 4 years.
Costs vary tremendously from only about $5000 for an associates degree, on up to over $35,000 for an actual culinary academy education. Most accredited schools offer financial aid.

Find out if the school is accredited.
Make sure the cuisine focus matches your interests.
Make sure your schedule will fit with the class schedule
Inquire about externship positions
Inquire about job placement after graduation
