City of Austin Workforce Development
The City of Austin is involved along with other workforce, educational and economic development organizations in implementing a variety of initiatives to address the needs of employers and current, emerging and transitional workers.
Through the Health and Human Services Department (HHSD), the City contracts with a variety of community-based organizations to provide workforce development services to adults and youth who are fully employed, underemployed, unemployed, and those needing special assistance.
Worksource
Development of a Virtual Career Center in collaboration with WorkSource - Greater Austin Area Workforce Board. The virtual career center will offer multiple benefits to clients, case managers, employers, training providers, and administrative personnel:
Services Available
WorkSource Career Centers (formerly the Capital of Texas Workforce Centers)
provide career exploration and personal computers with internet access for job search. On these computers, a customer can get information on the local labor market, access job listings, and receive information on education and training opportunities.
Customers will also find information on job search seminars and job search clubs. There are "hot jobs" boards and binders with other job listings.
Access to career assessment and development software on the PC's.
Customers are also able to access and use fax machines, copiers, phone bank, etc. for their job search.
Career centers collaborate with such entities as United Way, Capital Area Training Foundation, Green Thumb, and local colleges and universities.

WorkSource-Child Care Solutions (formerly Capital Area CCMS)
WorkSource-Child Care Solutions offers financial child care assistance to low-income families who are employed, in training, or enrolled in educational activities and meet our eligibility guidelines. We provide local communities a focal point for the coordination of services to families and children.
WorkSource-Child Care Solutions enables TANF recipients and low-income parents to participate in the workforce by:
Coordinating the child care arrangement between the parent and the child care provider.
Recruiting providers that offer care during non-traditional hours to accommodate all work schedules.
Expanding the availability of full day child care in order to support the participation in employment, training and educational activities.

First Workers' Day Labor Program
WorkThe City of Austin’s First Workers’ Day Labor Center is a great resource for citizens and business owners who need workers for a few hours, a day or longer. Full-time, bilingual staff manage the Center and provide direct assistance to help identify workers who meet your needs. There is no paper work for employers to fill out and no fee charged for our service. Our drive-thru process offers employers an efficient friendly service. Also, you may call ahead and reserve a specific worker. On average, 200 workers are available daily.
Hourly rates are negotiated between the employer and workers.
1. Multi-Skilled Workers available: masons, painters, tile setters and landscapers
2. Bilingual workers available
3. No fee for employers or workers
