Austin strives to be one of the greenest cities in the US . We as consumers need to do our part to keep our beautiful city as efficient as possible. Recycling is a big part of that.
Watch a special about the importance of recycling and then read on to learn about recycling in Austin.
The City of Austin does have a recycling pick up service. They come on different days depending upon where you live. In general, however, make sure you have your recycling on your curb by 6:30 am . Also, keep it about 5 feet away from your garbage, if your garbage happens to be collected on the same day as your recycling. Make sure to rinse all containers and their lids before putting them in the bin for pickup as dirty items contaminate them from being able to be recycled. Make sure to keep like items together. For example, brown grocery paper bags cannot be mixed with glass and aluminum cans. For more information about Austin recycling services, go to http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/sws/default.htm
As the Solid Waste Services collects from almost 30,000 homes/day, sometimes they miss a house. If your house has been missed for recycling pickup, please call 494-9400 and someone will come and pick up your items.
Large Quantities If you have a large amount of recyclables, Austin has a great non-profit organization that does mass recycling. They have a free recycling drop off centers in downtown Austin as well as North Austin .
