How to Find and Purchase a Storage Building

Purchasing a storage building and getting your moneys worth is not as easy as it sounds these days. This is a major purchase for some. There are a lot of different types to choose from.Price is not the only thing to consider. Some company’s offer payment plans, some don’t. You don’t want to wind up paying more than it’s worth, but finances may force you to do so. Try to assess your needs, do you have some time to save if necessary? This will keep you from being tied down to a payment that will outlast the building you purchase. Always break it down to price per square foot, this will help you decide which is really the most cost effective.

Size of Storage Buidling
Another thing to consider is size. What size do you need? Do you have room for it to be delivered? Or, will it need to be built on-site? Some companies can build on-site, some can’t, or won’t. When considering size, always think in even numbers.

Type of Storage Building
Next is type… you have metal, and wood. There are different advantages to both. Your main concerns should be structural. Now, if you decide on wood, there are also different types to consider. What look are you going for? Some are sided with treated/untreated pine, and must be painted to attain the look you want. Some are already painted. Some (like ours) are cedar. Cedar has additional benefits. It doesn’t rot as quickly other woods, and it is a natural deturant to bugs. It doesn’t have to be painted to look nice, however, it does have to be kept water sealed if you want it to keep it’s natural color.

Custom Optomization
Options are another thing to consider. Some charge extra for windows, some come standard with a window or two. Always ask what is included for the price.

Delivery
Delivery and set up is also an important question. Most companies charge extra for this, which you must pay, otherwise, how are you supposed to get it from the place it was purchased to your house. Look for a company that includes this in the price, at least for some of the mileage.

Building one yourself?
Most people don’t have time, knowledge, or even want to do that. If you start one yourself, you will want to finish it as soon as you can. Raw materials left out in the elements will not stay straight for long.

The same goes for cabins that you are going to use for a guest house, live in yourself, or any other purpose you may use it for. Usually you can buy just the shell and finish the inside yourself, or you can buy it completely finished inside and ready to move in. Always know what you want before you set out to find something to buy. Do you want a “cookie cutter” building, the same as all the others? Or, do you want something custom built? Some companies will not or can not custom build. Some (like us) give you a choice. This will make your experience easier and faster, and will assure your happiness with your purchase for a long time to come.
