Are You In Need of a Bathroom Remodel in Austin?

Listed below are questions you should ask yourself if you are considering a remodel. They will help to guide you as to whether you’re really in need of a new space, or perhaps just tired of the old look.

Austin Money Savers Tip Before bidding for a professional think hard about the tasks you may be able to do yourself. For instance, you may need a professional to make an addition, but you could paint it yourself. You'll find that all those tasks could add up to a whole lot of savings.

Fixtures

  • Is the shower head at a comfortable height for all users?
  • Is the shower safe (non-slip flood grab bars, bench seat, and temperature controlled faucet)?
  • Is the bathtub big enough?
  • Is the bathtub safe (easy to get into, faucets within reach, non-slip bottom, grab bars?)
  • Is the sink at a comfortable height to wash your face in (34”-36”)?
  • Is the toilet in a good location (and away from all swinging doors)?
  • Are all the fixtures an attractive color?
  • Are all the fixtures easy to clean?
  • Are shower doors tempered safety glass?

Storage Systems

  • Is the cabinet door style and color up-to-date?
  • Is the existing cabinet finish in good shape?
  • Is there enough storage space for your grooming equipment?
  • Do cabinets include a well-organized storage system?
  • Is there a convenient spot for soaps and shampoos in the shower and or tub area?
  • Are there enough towel bars?
  • Is there space for towel storage in or near the bathroom?

Mechanical Elements

  • Is there an efficient ventilation system in the room?
  • Is the bathroom comfortably warm in the morning a dafter a shower or bath?
  • Is there adequate lighting in the right places for your bathroom activities (shaving, make-up application, reading, etc.)
  • Are all the electrical outlets protected with Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters to prevent electric shock?
  • Are the plumbing pipes free from leaks?

Austin Price Check! The cost of tile completely depend on which tiles you are using. Typically bathroom tile costs around $7/square foot with labor included while a kitchen tile can cost more like $9-$15.

Major Surfaces

  • Are the surfaces easy to clean?
  • Does the room look pretty to family members and guests?
  • Are the walls in the shower and/or tub free from mildew or dry rot damage?

Room Orientation

  • Is the existing bathroom big enough?
  • Does the bathroom relate to adjacent rooms in the way you would like?
  • Can two people use the bathroom comfortably and conveniently at the same time?
  • Are all entry, closet and cabinet doors able to swing without interrupting walkways or blocking fixture use?

If you answered NO more than YES to these questions, you may be in need of a bathroom remodel. Be sure to read our “Remodeling your Kitchen- Guidelines to Follow When Using a Professional” article. It will give you information for the next step to your new bathroom!
