Finding a Austin Sign Company

Signs can be a great way of expressing your message. Whether you are welcoming a family member home from the airport, having a garage sale or selling lemonade, signs can say it all.

There are many different kinds of stores in Austin that produce signs and banners. Of course, the first one to come to mind for many is Kinkos. Although they do produce signs and banners in Austin, also consider actually stores that specialize in sign making.

Sign making stores will typically have a greater array of materials as well as equipment.

Austin Money Savers Tip: Ask for banners to be printed on the thinnest banner they have. The thicker the banner, the more expensive it will be.

Signs and banners can be pricier than you’d expect. The price of a sign or banner will depend on a variety of factors:

Material: There are several substrates used for sign making. For example, Coroplast looks like plastic cardboard, and is one of the most inexpensive materials for signs. Banner material comes in several different thicknesses, the thicker the more expensive.

Lettering/Designs: Any kind of lettering and design that will go on the sign will affect the price. In the past, letters and designs were made of a thin vinyl that acted like a sticker onto the substrate. It was printed from 12” and 24” rolls, in a rainbow of colors. The printer was actually a small knife that cut into the vinyl and as sign makers pull back the excess, what remains is the decal. Now, it is more common to actually have letters and images digitally printed onto vinyl. This makes for better quality as well as the ability to use several different colors in one image.

Money Savers Tip: If you are getting your design printed with vinyl, rather digitally, ask for the decal, rather than the sign. It is easy to stick the decals onto your own substrate and can save you a lot of money!

Design: Actual sign shops in Austin have one or more graphic designers whose only job is to work with clients to make their ideas become a reality through signs. Most print and copy shops will not have a designer that is as well-verse in sign and banner making in Austin.
